My computer is not high end, but is way beyond the required specs. However, some people say Steam version works smooth for them in post imperial 4v4 on their computer, so maybe the Steam version needs a much better computer.

But then again, if User Patch truly made it that smooth on Voobly, why the hell isn't it integrated fully on Steam? Why isn't Steam version developed on the back of User Patch? Same bad things happen on Steam version in single player with AI in later game stages (but one can say the AI calculations are to be blamed too in such case).Īnd I'm not sure unmodded AOC (1.0c) had any such computer lag problems either, I cant exactly remember how it was before userpatch, but I could swear it was just as cursive. So the netcode is not the main issue here. On Voobly, you simply don't have such problems, even if the game is laggy because of a bad player connection, you will get network lag, but still wont have any computer lag (maybe only for 300+ pop 4v4), you will still be able to smoothly scroll and select anything. When there is more and more stuff on the map things will start to fill laggy: the map wont scroll smoothly anymore, responses to your actions will be less responsive, you will find it hard to click/select something, etc.
We aren't talking about network lag (I think we all know what is expected to happen in a peer to peer game that needs to stay in perfect time sync for all players - unlike a shooter or car sim - if a player has high ping), it's about "computer lag". I understand OP's concerns about the Steam version, he is entirely right unfortunately. The userpatch was independently developed to fix most of these issues, it was (development of it has ended) and is a great thing.ĭisclaimer: I'm not a dev of either of these organizations and i'm not representing anyone but my own opinion/knowlege with what i said above.
As an AI scripter i also have to mention that the AI script language was very limited and there were lots of AI related bugs. Without the userpatch the disc version of the game (1.0c) had frequent OOS, no high resolution, 20 fps in SP and an insane amount of bugs. They made some other mainly cosmetic additions though which is nice (and it's still great that they at least use the biggest part of the userpatch, else you'd see much more games there which would OOS/crash before they are over).

Sadly Voobly isn't using the full version of the userpatch though, instead they use their own networking code which is worse than the one of the userpatch. Special support for WK DE, with automatically updating ranges.We have to remember that one the biggest reasons for Voobly's success is because of the Userpatch which they use now which wasn't made by any Voobly members.For some random graphical glitch, the dashed line may disappear after placing the tower, and then reappear after scrolling down the view.If it doesn't work with any other data mod, please let me know.

It should work together with any other visual mods and I tested it with AOC, Wololo Kingdoms and DE Balance.

If there's enough request, I'll create a separate mod that does that too. I chose not to do the same here for avoiding messy graphics. The DE one shows 3 lines, the second and the third being the ranges after fletching and bodkin arrow.Modifying the slps of towers themselves made the range line clickable, so I had to use the shadows (that aren't clickable by default). While the DE one was a modification of the towers' slps, this one is a modification of their shadows' slps.
There are some differences between the original mod and this one though: This mod was inspired by by johannes and johannes himself gave me some helpful tips for porting it to Voobly.
